The Sixth International Festival of Regional Theaters has started in Senaki Municipality, which was attended by the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli. The festival was opened with the performance - "Stealing the Moon" created by the great Konstantine Gamsakhurdia, performed by the Professional State Drama Theater of Sokhumi, and held in full compliance with the recommendations issued by the Ministry of Health.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli: “The International Festival of Regional Theatres opened today. It is highly interesting effort and represents a worthy continuation of the great traditions of theatrical culture in our regions. The first performance of the festival was perfectly performed by the Sokhumi Theatre, which revived the great Konstantine Gamsakhurdia's brilliant novel "Stealing the Moon " with a unique approach and an extremely creative vision. I would like to congratulate everyone with the successful opening of the festival and thank the organizers, especially its artistic director and inspirer, Mrs. Nineli Chankvetadze. The festival is held with the support of our Ministry. I wish all the participants great success in the future. As for the theatre lovers, I am sure that very interesting performances and great pleasure await them. "
After the performance, Mikheil Chkhenkeli congratulated the festival founder, director of the Sokhumi Theatre and the entire cast on the opening of the festival.
The author of the play is Tamaz Goderdzishvili. It brings to life scenes from Konstantine Gamsakhurdia's novel "Stealing the Moon". The play was directed by Gocha Kapanadze and the artist is Anna Ninua. Actors and performers: Ekaterine Archaia, Badri Begalishvili, Davit Beradze, Izolda Bokuchava, Giorgi Gasviani, Giorgi Gogishvili, Jano Izoria, Veriko Kalandia, Julieta Pakeliani, Marina Solomonia, Merab Kolbaia, Mariam Kolbaashvili, Nikoloz Tserediani, Nugzar Tserediani, Eden Khvichia.
The Sixth International Festival of Regional Theatres will be held between September 1-6 at specially selected locations in the open air.
The International Festival of Regional Theatres was established in 2015 with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia. The festival is organized by the cultural-educational foundation "Today" (founding actress Nineli Chankvetadze). The festival is supported by Poti and Senaki Municipalities.
