Mikheil Chkhenkeli: “Today we visited the new school in the village of Khoveli, Kaspi Municipality, built to modern standards, and congratulated the children and teachers on the beginning of the new academic year. The learning process here began in the usual environment, in classrooms.
I would like to emphasize that despite the great challenges, 50 new schools have been built across the country and up to 800 schools have been equipped with modern standards. Similar projects are underway across the country. The uninterrupted flow of education and taking care of our youth and their education is a top priority for our team and for our government.
Due to the challenges of the pandemic, the educational process in several cities and villages started remotely. Our goal is to get the students back to the classrooms and for that it is necessary to follow the regulations. Therefore, I would like to ask every one of you to follow the recommendations of the Ministry of Health as much as possible. We have to take care of each other, especially the children, who are more vulnerable."
The second building of Khoveli Public School was built by the LEPL Educational and Scientific Infrastructure Development Agency of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Georgia. Only the environmentally friendly building materials were used during its construction. The cost of the project is GEL 3,530,000.
The building designated for 150 students is connected to the existing building by a passage corridor. The classrooms of the new building are equipped with modern inventory and equipment. The school has several computer classrooms equipped with the latest technology, an art room, a gym, a library, a doctor's office, and a dining room. Chemistry, physics, and biology laboratories will soon be equipped with appropriate equipment. There is an open sports field on the school premises as well.
Despite the difficulties, the new school year started with important news. For the 2020-21 academic year, the construction of 50 new public schools in Tbilisi and the regions has already been completed, and about 800 schools have been fully and partially renovated. Infrastructural works were carried out by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, in collaboration with the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure. Part of the works are financed from the local budgets of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara and the regions.
Out of 2,085 public and 220 private schools operating in Georgia, in compliance with all safety norms, 1,577 schools started teaching in the usual format on September 15, whereas up to 730 general education institutions resumed distance learning.
Public schools are fully equipped with bridges, disinfection barriers, surface disinfectants and remote thermometers, as provided by the Ministry.
