The Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia, together with the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, Mikheil Chkhenkeli and local government officials, visited the newly built public school in the village of Zeda Sakari, Zestaponi Municipality and congratulated the students and teachers on returning to the classroom.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli: “Today, together with the Prime Minister, we visited the public school built according to the modern standards of Zeda Sakari and congratulated the students and teachers on the return of natural learning environment.”
I am glad that the local students were able to continue the learning process right within the walls of the new building. Arranging modern school infrastructure is one of the main priorities of our government. Accordingly, the construction, renovation and equipping of schools throughout Georgia will continue throughout.
Moreover, owing to the decision of the Coordinating Council, from today, February 1, the educational process in general education institutions throughout the country, including Adjara, except Tbilisi, Kutaisi, and Rustavi, resumed in classrooms. As for the schools of Tbilisi, Kutaisi, and Rustavi, based on the recommendation of the Ministry of Health, the epidemiological situation will be assessed once again and if the 7-day infection rate drops to 4%, the government will consider alleviating the restrictions.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli thanked the teachers of Zeda Sakari for their work during the pandemic in the process of maintaining the continuity and quality of education. The minister noted that teachers, along with renowned doctors, stand on the front lines and represent the heroes of modernity.
The newly built school in the village of Zeda Sakari, Zestaponi Municipality, is designed for 300 students. The modern type of three-story school building is adapted for students with special educational needs as well. The school was equipped with a fire safety system, science laboratories, a combined gym and playground was arranged in the yard.
The construction works were carried out by the LEPL Educational and Scientific Infrastructure Development Agency using modern technologies and ecologically clean construction materials. The cost of the project is more than 4.5 million GEL.
In 2020, despite the pandemic, educational infrastructure projects went uninterrupted: 30 schools were built; and construction of 60 schools will be completed in 2021; Toilets in about 800 schools have been completely renovated; 9 public schools were fully renovated and more than 150 were partially renovated; renovation process of more than 100 public schools has started.
