The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, with the support of the EU project "Support to Public Administration Reform in Georgia (PAR)", is actively working on the strategy and action plan for education and science for 2022-2032. The document will be in line with the priorities of the Government of Georgia, the best international experience and EU standards.
The Education and Science Strategy and Action Plan of Georgia for 2022-2032 will be the main policy document of the Ministry, which covers all areas of the education system: pre-school education, general, vocational and higher education, adult education and science. The new strategy will integrate EU recommendations in the field of education and science and all international commitments.
A two-day working meeting was held to effectively guide the strategy development process. The meeting was attended by the First Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Ekaterine Dgebuadze, Deputies Nunu Mitskevichi and Tamar Kitiashvili, and EU Project Manager Tibor Draskovic.
Ekaterine Dgebuadze: “The Ministry of Education and Science continues to work on the 2022-2032 strategy. As you know, the development of education and science is a priority of the Government of Georgia and, therefore, the new strategic document pays special attention to ensuring the quality, accessibility and continuity of education, as well as the practice of good governance and evidence-based decision-making. Developing a 10-year strategy is a great responsibility for the Ministry of Education and Science, but we believe that with the support of partners and joint efforts we will be able to develop a strategy focused on each citizen. "
On the first day of the workshop, participants outlined the target areas of the 2022-2032 Education and Science Strategy and discussed key outcomes to be achieved by 2032. The second day of the meeting was dedicated to working on the strategy development methodology and planning activities in the field.
Tibor Draskovic: "I fully share the view of the meeting participants that working on a strategy document is an important step towards improving the quality of the education system. The development of the education and science system requires the active participation and cooperation of all parties and stakeholders involved. We are pleased to have the opportunity to participate in this challenging process and support the Ministry of Education and Science as part of the project 'Support to Public Administration Reform’."
Furthermore, various experts from two EU projects - "Support to Public Administration Reform in Georgia" and "Skills Development for Employment, together with a team of international and local experts of the World Bank Project - "Innovation, Inclusive Education and Quality" and Representatives of the Policy Planning Division of the Government of Georgia are actively involved in the process of developing the strategy and action plan,
After the public discussion of the Education and Science Strategy 2022-2032, the project is set to be approved by the end of 2021.
Development of education and science is one of the main priorities of the Government of Georgia. Significant investments in this direction are made both from the state budget and from international organizations. The EU-funded project "Support to Public Governance Reform in Georgia (PAR)" has been cooperating with the Ministry of Education and Science since 2020 and actively continues to provide technical support to the Education and Science Strategy 2022-2032 development process.
