The Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli took part in the 2021 Summit of the World Economic Forum, where the issues of overcoming the economic crisis caused by the pandemic and strengthening the labour market were discussed.

In his speech, Mikheil Chkhenkeli spoke about the challenges that created a new agenda in the education system and highlighted the need to move closer to the needs of the global labour market. To this end, with the active support of international donor organizations and the private sector, the methodology of staff training was re-evaluated, and a new training system was established.

Mikheil Chkhenkeli: “Quality professional education and its availability is essential for achieving sustainable and inclusive growth. In order to update the skills of the adult population and meet the demand of the labour market, we have launched intensive training programs, in which the Ministry has made great efforts. In addition, we are actively working to recognize the non-formal education system. "

The Minister noted that in 2021, in cooperation with the private sector, the Ministry established the Skills Agency of Georgia. The agency will support the introduction of new programs in line with demand in the labour market, support for innovative training, improve competition and better employment opportunities. In addition, cooperation with the World Economic Forum (WEF) within the framework of "Closing the Skills Gap Accelerator in Georgia" will provide a solid foundation for public-private partnership initiatives and human capital development.
