From the new academic year, the project "Open the door to science", which involves the cooperation of schools and research institutions, will enter a new phase. As part of the project, students will visit a research institute of their choice, learn about the work of scientists and receive the latest information on current research and scientific projects. "Open the door to science" is carried out within the framework of the education and science project "Science Calendar - 2021" in order to popularize science in the country.
Deputy Ministers of Education and Science of Georgia, Ekaterine Dgebuadze, and Nunu Mitskevichi, held a meeting with representatives of research institutes, schools and resource centres interested in the project.
Nunu Mitskevichi thanked the gathered community for their active involvement and discussed various aspects and opportunities of the project. According to the Deputy Minister, in 2020, the Internet platform "Open the door to science" was created, where video stories of successful science are posted, reflecting the activities of scientific research institutes. The platform harnessed great interest among the students.
The event was also attended by Jaba Samushia, General Director of Shota Rustaveli Georgian National Science Foundation, who introduced the Foundation's competitions to popularize science among students. He noted that grant competitions for schoolchildren will be announced in the near future, namely, "Science starts at school - research with the participation of students" and the competition of student inventors and researchers "Leonardo da Vinci". Scientists working in a specific field will be actively involved in the mentioned competitions together with the students.
The project "Science Calendar - 2021" is implemented by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia to promote science. The slogan of the project is Undique scientia est (Science is everywhere) and it aims to present science as a part of everyday life of all strata of society and to popularize it in the wider society. Within the framework of the project, a number of educational and cognitive events are held throughout Georgia throughout the year.
