The Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia has established the procedures and timelines for registering first graders in public schools for the 2024-2025 academic year.
In accordance with the decision made by the Minister of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia, Giorgi Amilakhvari, an amendment to the Law of Georgia "On General Education" regarding the age for school enrolment has been implemented. Specifically, for the 2024-2025 academic year, children who will reach the age of 6 before December 1 will be eligible to register for first grade.
Under this amendment, considering the child's readiness and best interests, parents or legal representatives of individuals born between the beginning of the school year and December 1 will have the option to choose between continuing preschool education or registering for first grade.
Registration Deadlines for First Graders:
Stage I: During the first stage of registration, from March 6 to March 20, 2024, children with special educational needs will be registered in schools. Parents of these children should apply to their desired public school within this period. Upon application, the school will register the child in the Education Management Information System (EMIS). A multidisciplinary team will evaluate the child to confirm special educational needs. Enrolment for children registered in this stage will take place from March 21, 2024, to April 26, 2024.
Stage II: Registration will be open from May 1 to May 16 for children meeting specific criteria, such as having siblings or parents employed at the desired public school, or for families with two or more children entering first grade simultaneously.
Stage III: General registration will commence from May 20 and continue until June 13. Parents/legal guardians will register their children electronically on the official website of the Education Management Information System (registration.emis.ge) during this period. Necessary documentation for electronically registered students must be submitted from June 14 to June 25.
Stage IV: From June 27 to July 12, remaining free places or vacancies from previous stages will be filled. Students who failed to register earlier or wish to change their registration can do so during this stage.
Necessary Enrolment Documents for First Grade:
Parents/legal representatives must provide a statement containing the legal representative's contact information and residence details, along with a copy of the legal representative's identity card and a document confirming residence in Georgia. Additionally, a copy of the student's birth certificate or identity document and proof of residence must be submitted. Documents in foreign languages must be translated into Georgian as per Georgian legislation.
The Ministry encourages parents to carefully review the registration terms and conditions to ensure a smooth enrolment process for their children.
