According to the decision made by the Minister of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia, Giorgi Amilakhvari, starting from the 2024-2025 school year, funding for students enrolled in the Georgian language preparation educational program (1+4) with state educational grants has been doubled. This means that funding will now be provided for 200 Armenian-speaking and 200 Azerbaijani-speaking students annually, instead of the previous allocation of 100 students for each group.
Notably, the funding for students enrolled in the "1+4" educational program, based on the results of Armenian and Azerbaijani language tests, is set at 450,000 GEL each. Furthermore, this funding will increase annually.
Moreover, increasing access to education for representatives of ethnic minorities is a key priority for the Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia. Doubling the funding volume within the "1+4" educational program aligns with this objective.
The "1+4" educational program is designed as part of a special preferential policy to facilitate the admission process for ethnic minority students. It provides them with the opportunity to enhance their proficiency in the Georgian language before embarking on their chosen educational program. Specifically, ethnic minority students can enroll in their desired university by passing an aptitude test in their native language.
In addition to simplified enrolment procedures, the "1+4" educational program also includes financial support. Upon successfully passing the exam in their native language, students receive funding to pursue their studies in the Georgian language training program. Subsequently, they can continue their education in their preferred field of study at the same higher education institution with full financial assistance.
