The Minister of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia, Giorgi Amilakhvari, met with Susan Acland-Hood, the Permanent Secretary of the Department of Education of Great Britain, at Lancaster House during the official reception of the World Education Forum in London.
The parties discussed the results of an in-depth study on transnational education conducted by the British organization Times Higher Education (THE) in Georgia from January to March this year. This study was part of the cooperation between the Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia and the British Council. They also explored the possibility of British universities establishing a presence in Georgia.
The minister also met with Sir Steve Smith, the British government's adviser on higher education issues, to discuss the prospects for deepening cooperation between Georgian and British universities.
Giorgi Amilakhvari proposed a study visit to Georgian universities for the Permanent Secretary and the Government Advisor on Education Issues, so the British side could better understand Georgia's opportunities and foster real cooperation between Georgian and British higher education institutions. The British representatives expressed their full support and readiness for a close partnership with Georgia, including visiting and entering the Georgian market.
At the end of the official reception, Giorgi Amilakhvari invited the Permanent Secretary and the Government Advisor to Georgia to strengthen the partnership between the two countries.
It should be noted that the purpose of the research conducted by Times Higher Education (THE) was to identify opportunities and challenges for the development of British-Georgian transnational education and to develop recommendations for fostering partnership relations between the two countries.
