The Minister of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia, Giorgi Amilakhvari, inaugurated the conference titled "Internationalization of Higher Education in Georgia," organized by San Diego State University - Georgia.
In his address to the audience, the minister underscored the significance of internationalizing higher education in Georgia and highlighted both ongoing and future projects in this domain. He extended special appreciation to the academic delegation of San Diego State University for their longstanding and productive collaboration, which has led to the implementation of numerous joint educational initiatives. According to him, the partnership with San Diego State University holds particular importance in advancing Georgia's higher education on the global stage.
During his speech, Minister Amilakhvari emphasized the advancements made within the joint educational project valued at 5 million dollars, which was extended for an additional 4 years based on a memorandum signed in 2023, facilitated and supported by the Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth. Under this initiative, SDSU Georgia has enrolled approximately 90 students across three English-language undergraduate programs: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Civil Engineering.
These programs are being executed in collaboration with Tbilisi State University, Ilia State University, and the Technical University of Georgia.
The conference was also attended by Deputy Minister of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia, Nodar Papukashvili; San Diego State University Provost and First Vice President, William Tong; San Diego State University Vice President for Research and Innovation, Hala Madanat; San Diego State University School of Science Dean, Jeffrey Roberts; as well as rectors from Tbilisi State University, Ilia State University, and the Technical University of Georgia, along with representatives from the academic community.
