The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia responds to a slanderous article - "alarm bells", which was published by the author - Guram Palavandishvili (LLC real estate firm "Erdo"), who deceptively is trying to discredit the Ministry’s actions and deliberately try to confuse the society. The author says: “The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, with the direct order from the European Union, wants to make a massive attack on our children – the new compulsory subjects “ I and society” and “My Georgia”, which is targeted for the children aged from 7-13 years, on one hand will poison their conscious with the terrible homosexual ideas, and on the other hand will confuse their religious and nationalistic ideas.”
To back his claim up, the author brings evidence not from the national curriculum, but recites passages from the 2004 document – “Compass”, which is a non-formal educational resource from one of the non-governmental organizations.
We must emphasize, that the mentioned document has nothing to do with the Ministry of Education and Science’s official national curriculum.
It is also unclear how one can talk about the existence of the manual, when a training plan is not even approved.
The whole purpose of learning social sciences is to help students develop responsibility and a caring attitude towards self, family, community, natural environment and their cultural heritage; To give basic knowledge of the ethics promotes their healthy lifestyles and personal security protection. Moreover, it develops various skills, which are an active part in social life of our country. Consequently, the purpose of learning “I and Society" is to enhance one’s perception of the social issues such as; why and how to care for family members and to one another; why and how to appreciate the hard work of all members of the family; why and how to safeguard a healthy lifestyle, hygiene, safety regulations, traffic rules and etc.; how can we avoid the spread of disease; wow to act during natural disasters; how to care for our natural habitat; why and how the rights of the children must be protected. It is indeed interesting, where did the author see the pervasive and mind corrupting ideas in those above-mentioned social issues?
The national curriculum involved the active participation of teachers, experts, psychologists and many qualified people. As for the public hearings, during the period of one year, academic circles, teachers, parents, various social groups and organizations had the opportunity to give their ideas towards the NC.
What is the purpose of interpreting such legitimate questions? Perhaps, such unscrupulous behavior only serves to destabilize the political situation, and at the same time create a gap within the society, which will create a negative attitude towards the European integration of Georgia.
The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, as well as any member of a healthy society, has one important goal – to provide students with a modern quality education, and form them to a worthy citizens of the country, and in order to achieve that, several programs and various manuals are needed. That is exactly why the Ministry has been working on the principle of openness. All documents, training plans, methodological guides, programs, and modules will be made available to the parties and public.
We ask the concerned public to observe the curriculum for the 3-4 grade and if possible detect the signs of homosexuality promotion or mind corruption.
Today, when our country is facing serious challenges, the time and resources is spent on the "survival of society" false pathos and deliberate manipulation of public deception and the discussion of non-existent problems.
At the same time, it is regrettable that the well-known and respected people were tricked into signing a petition. We believe that the society will reason and wont allow to speculate with the issues of 3rd and 4th grade.
We state that this provocation will not remain unanswered - the spread of wrong information to the public have serious consequences and an appropriate reaction.
