The Government of Georgia presented a ten-year development plan to the public. Within the framework of these events, the presentation of the Education and Science Development Plan was held.
Prime Minister, Irakli Gharibashvili addressed the public at the Sheraton Grand Metechi Palace and spoke about the importance of education and science development for Georgia.
Irakli Gharibashvili: “We have started working on a 10-year development document and practically, the first-half of the document is ready. I would like to mention very briefly how important the development of education and science is for our country, our future and our children. As you know and it is widely known to everyone, after the collapse of the Soviet Union all industries suffered a great deal of damage, including the education system. At a time when we were always regarded as one of the most distinguished nations and it was widely recognized that it was one of the most educated societies in our country. Unfortunately, as a result of the cataclysms, we have caused a great deal of damage to the education system as a whole, and this, of course, has also affected the well-being of our population. Our core values are based on education and an educated society. In this context, I would like to note that our main aspiration to become a member of the EU large family, of course, means that we must approach the quality of education in the EU member states at the level of education. "
The ten-year plan for the development of education and science was presented to the public by the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli, whose main priority is to ensure maximum access to quality education for young people and each citizen at all levels of education.
In his speech, Mikheil Chkhenkeli spoke about the planned innovations in preschool, general, vocational and higher education, as well as science, noting that the Ministry has already started and will continue the complex reforms of the education system. According to the Minister, the set goals can not be achieved without the joint efforts of each person involved in the education system - teachers, professors, researchers, representatives of the education system.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli thanked the Government of Georgia and personally the Prime Minister, Mr. Irakli Gharibashvili for their support in the field of education, as well as members of the Georgian Parliament, foreign strategic partners, representatives of the diplomatic corps and international organizations actively involved in the development of the Georgian education system.
