The Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Giorgi Amilakhvari, hosted a high-level meeting with distinguished representatives including Christophe Masson and Corinne Deleu from the Directorate General for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement (DG NEAR) of the European Commission, as well as Freya von Groot, the Director of the Multi-Country Office (MCO) Austria for the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), among others.
During the meeting, Minister Amilakhvari engaged in detailed discussions about the "European School - Tbilisi" project, a collaborative initiative between the European Union and the Ministry, with the representatives from the European Commission and UNOPS. The dialogue covered both the infrastructural and academic dimensions of the project. The Minister highlighted that the project is being actively and systematically monitored.
The progress of the "European School - Tbilisi" project received positive feedback from the European Commission delegates and the UN Project Management Office, who also affirmed their commitment to intensifying their partnership with the Ministry to further the advancement of Georgia's education sector.
The "European School - Tbilisi" project stands as a unique collaboration between the Ministry and the European Union, executed by UNOPS. It is set to be the first of its kind established outside the borders of the EU.
Currently, the construction of the International European School is making headway in Tbilisi, adjacent to Lisi Lake. The school is being built to EU standards and spans 26,090 square meters, featuring educational and dormitory buildings, sports facilities including rugby, basketball, and volleyball courts, a library, and various other educational spaces. The school's design embodies a modern, versatile learning environment that will set a new benchmark for school architecture in Georgia. The European School's indoor and outdoor spaces are designed to provide students with a wealth of opportunities to engage in learning, live, and spend leisure time in a nurturing educational setting.
