Higher Education and Science Development Department aims at the development of science and higher education, increasing the access to higher education, and increasing the popularity of science amongst the society and the promotion of Georgian language.
The activities include the development of Higher Education and Science Department of Higher Education and Science and analysis system based on the relevant legislative initiatives to modernize the training system. Also, the department is in charge of promoting science to the students, financing, managing and evaluating the processes of science institutions, support the higher education institutions in their research and educational processes. Supporting Georgian and foreign citizens for student planning and implementation of various social programs. Promotion of programs related to the National Georgian language.
Higher Education and Science Department is combined of four divisions:
Each division has its own sphere of activities, priorities, objectives and competencies, with the common aim of higher education and science development, increasing the access to higher education, and promoting science and Georgian language.
Irine Darchia was appointed for this position in April 2015. She graduated from Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University from Classic Philology faculties and studied new Greek language and culture at the university of Athens. She also attended training courses and practices at Saarbrucken universities. Irine Darchia is an Associate Professor of Classical Philology at University of Classical, Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies and acts as a visiting professor for various courses and public lectures in Greece, Italy, Norway, and Germany.
Irine Darchia has published five books and more than 40 articles in national and international scientific journals. She is the author of two monographs, new Greek-Georgian dictionary and the co-author of the comparative grammar structures for new Greek and Ancient Greek languages. She is also an honorary member of Plato’s International Association.
Irine Darchia regularly participates in international seminars, symposia and conferences, which are dedicated to classical philology, Modern Greek, and higher education problems. Irine attributes, also as the member of the European Commission's Erasmus + - National Office of higher education reform expert. Her expertise in the areas of quality assurance, innovations in teaching and learning, doctoral education and research policy are unparralled. As the reform of higher education experts, she has prepared the following documents: lifelong universities guidelines, recommendations for doctoral education for the development of the National Qualifications Framework in the context of quality assurance mechanisms and procedures, also a study in Georgia for internal and external quality assurance mechanisms, and so forth.
Ms. Irine Darchia speaks English, Russian and modern Greek languages fluently, has a professional knowledge of ancient Greek, Latin, Italian and German.
