Deputy Minister
Giorgi Chakhnashvili attended a presentation of the joint project of Georgian
and Czech schoolchildren at the school lyceum of Mtsignobartukhutsesi. During the event, Mr. Giorgi Chakhnashvili met the representatives of the
Czech education sphere and discussed with them various educational
projects/programs.

of Georgia, Dimitri Shashkini, met the local population of Telavi. The Minister, along with an election candidate from the National Party, Vasil Davitashvili, answered the questions of the people from the villages of Ikalto, Karajala

English language volunteer teachers, who work in Georgia through the program “Teach and Learn with Georgia,” visited the Kakheti region and took part in winemaking. Teachers from USA, Canada, Australia, Great Britain and countries of Europe picked grapes at the vineyard of the professional college “Aisi”. They then proceeded to prepare the first batch of wine of the season.

Rustaveli National Science Foundation announced an international contest, named “Leonardo Da Vinci,” for schoolchildren–inventors. The aim of the contest is to
promote creative thinking among schoolchildren and to interest them in
technical innovations.

In the scope of his official visit to the US, Minister Dimitri Shashkini
held a meeting with the Deputy Assistance Secretary of State for
Education Affairs, Marianne Craven. Current developments in the Georgian
education sector and programs for the enhancement of English
Language Instruction, including the TLG program and English classes beginning in the first-class, were discussed during the meeting.

of first classes.

In order to strengthen instruction of the English language, English language
cabinets will be opened in the schools of Georgia. Schoolchildren will be
taught English by Georgian and native English-speaking teachers. The cabinets will
be equipped with English language teaching materials, visual, and audio
resources.

The Minister of Education and Science, Dimitri Shashkini, paid an official visit to the United States. In the frame of this visit, the Minister held meetings with the representatives of 31 leading higher educational institutions, including Georgia State University, Cornell University, Emory University, the University of Pittsburg, Florida International University, the University of District of Columbia, the University of Kentucky, and the University of Alabama.

The Shota
Rustaveli National Science Foundation organized another international
scientific conference. The conference was held in the National Center
for Manuscripts over a 4 day period. The topics of the conference included: Georgian
historical territories abroad; Georgian monasteries abroad; Georgian manuscripts; and
archival heritage.
